The Wilfindja Experimental Sea Hunter is a hovering Illuminate minor experimental unit. Whilst having no weapons attached to the body of the unit it possesses a series of drones which attack land, naval, and submerged units by firing a direct-fire energy weapon at them.
The Wilfindja uses 12 attack drones each capable of dealing out 176 dps giving the Wilfindja a total of 2112 dps, which is a huge amount when compared to that of other minor experimentals, this however is offset by the units low health and short range.
The weapon range for the wilfindja is more accurately the range which an enemy must be inside for the wilfindja to dispatch its drones towards. Drones already near enemies will fire upon them even if they are outside of the wilfindja's range.
The gun drones are not disabled if the core becomes disabled, this can be useful as it means releasing a Half-baked Wilfindja will still have all of its firepower.
It doesn't have any anti-air weaponry, so it is extremely susceptible to air units. Be sure to escort it with Weedoboths or Crahdows.
This can be an extremely difficult unit to use well, as it has no weapons on its own frame, and doesn't have a large enough health tank to survive direct confrontation.
If you plan to send it straight into battle, pair it with one or two assault blocks and order the Wilfindja to "assist" them. If necessary, stop the Wilfindja in case it passes the blocks.
Wilfindjas can be effective base defenses if placed under shields, giving the same dps as 7 illuminate point defenses albeit at a slightly shorter range but at half the cost, the main benefit of doing this however is that you can spend points in land unit training to boost your base defenses whilst also increasing the effectiveness of your attacking forces without wasting any points into the structure research tree.
The Wilfindja is the fastest land unit in the game meaning that it can effectively kite any unit in the game with a range shorter than its own. This has several benefits, first of all that the unit can deal damage without taking any but it can also extend the range of its drones by a significant amount. Kiting with the Wilfindja takes a large amount of micro management to pull off as due to its high speed and short range.
Wilfindjas are much less effective at attacking moving assault bots than other units as the speed of the projectiles that the drones fire is too slow and tends to miss more often than not.
Wilfindjas are most useful when used in conjunction with illuminate swarming tactics. The large number of units you should have act as a screen, negating the issues of the units low health and the ridiculously high damage output of the wilfindja is excellent at taking out experimentals, shields and buildings reducing the need to use missile launchers in your build orders. Swarming assault bots (Harvorg) and mixing in a few bodabooms is therefore all you need and allows your attack groups to move at as fast a speed as possible 3.8 as opposed to 2.7 of a group mixed with Missile launchers. Researching the Wilfindja also has the bonus of being a prerequisite to the +25% damage output research needed to take your swarmed army to maximum damage. Although your force will have a much lower combined health than that of a Yenzoo/Urchinow/Universal Collosus based army it will have a much higher damage output will be much faster (3.8 vs 2.3) and will not need independent anti-air, missile launchers or anti-missile. Bearing in mind that you should be mixing in one Wilfindja per 100-150 assault bots this tactic is limited to use in mid to late game only.
Wilfindjas are also useful when fighting a UEF opponent for naval dominance. Make sure that you keep the main frame back in your base, though, as ships will rip through it.
One of the most effective uses is to slaughter enemy submarines, opening up the seas for construction, and friendlies to use. this is because in order to be hit the subs must surface, and even then if their surface weapon can deal significant damage, if you can catch them submerged then they will lose a lot of time surfacing to use their surface weapons, and probably die before they have a chance to return fire
