I mean, good lord. Weedoboth? Pullensmash? It's really just puns, and I for one really dislike these new Illuminate names. Sometimes, you just have to be boring, you can't try everything for the sake of originality. I'm still going to play them, their art style is neat and I like their units, but I'm not about to call them by their given names XP- IrishmanErrant 19:50, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

I would agree some of there names are bad(Weedoboth and Airnomo for example) but the game is now tuned for the more casual gamer so these kinda funny names are just less serious names, which make the game less serious. So the game will sell better to people who haven't played sup com before.---black6446

Yes and no; I agree that these names probably geared toward the casual gamer or first-time buyer, but I don't think they'll help. Since these names are hardly advertised, only on the game site and in wiki's for more 'hardcore' RTS fans like us, I don't see how it was really worth it, or how they attract new casual gamers. I think they're just unnecessarily dumb, I have no problem with funny names or even puns, just that they do it properly. - IrishmanErrant 21:00, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

The first mod for this game will likely be one to increase the unit cap to 1000. The second, a mod to change all the Illuminate unit names to something more Aeon-like probably. -FoxHoundUnit89 00:29, March 2, 2010 (EST)

I hope so. I'm really disapointed with the names for this faction's units. The Aeon units in SC1 had great names. -Baronfuming 06:27, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

WTB mod to make it more like SupCom 1 :P Laexio 20:29, March 11, 2010 (UTC)

Hahaha, I love the names. I thought they were hilarious when I finally realized it.. (Yes, it took me a while, sue me)...

However, I am strictly a UEF player. So I suppose fighting an enemy with stupidly childish names wouldn't bother me. However, you guys might not be so casual, hehe. Since this topic might attract a few die hard Aeon players, whats your guys thoughts on the new Czar? I thought it was lame - however once again UEF-4-Life I want to know the opinions of people who actually play Aeon. WNx Achronos 20:42, March 11, 2010 (UTC)

I mostly play Cybran, but I never really liked the Czar. It always struck me as a stereotypical UFO. I think the Darkenoid has a better model, but I think that they could have done a much better job overall. Pretty underwhelming really, but so are most of the Supcom 2 "experimentals." On the topic of the Aeon, the only new expiremental that I like is the Loyalty Gun. I think that was a great concept. -Baronfuming 20:50, March 11, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with the Loyalty Gun idea. However, if not balanced correctly, it could turn out to be extremly stupid, and fatal to the games over balanced gameplay. ie. Captures a Loyalist in 2 seconds. If they don't balance the time it takes, they will need a patch to fix it, fast... Personally, I hate the new tech system. Not the tech system itself, just what it did to the number of units each faction was able to spew out. The diversity in FA was just astonishing. Now they took all those unique units, and well.. To put it so blunt - punched them in the nuts... WNx Achronos 21:03, March 11, 2010 (UTC)

i play mostly cybran but also like the Illluminate, and to be honest, i don't think it's that much of a big deal. So what if they're puns? they sound (mostly) alien enough to me, and i can take it seriously.

Regarding the experimentals, sure some of them are run-of-the-mill, but you've got to be pretty jaded to not be impressed with A: some of the effects in SC2, and B: some of the unit abilities (the Pullinsmash and Magnetron come to mind). I have never, *ever* seen units that can act as mini black holes. Moreover, it's not really up to us what goes in the game and i don't see the point in whining about it. To quote someone at GPGnet forums signature (don't remember the exact wording): "Everyone's complaining that supcom2 is a pile of junk, so go play fa with the 5 other people that are playing it." --RCIX 01:36, March 12, 2010 (UTC)

Not to object to what your saying RCIX, but never seen the abilities? If you played FA or ever saw a GC (Galatic Collusses) then you would know it pulls units into its arms and crumples them. Now, really the "Pull-in-smash" is essentially that same idea, but now its a bigger toy with the same idea, and the Magnetron is the same idea respectively... And yes, you are right, its not up to us what goes into the game, but if the people making the game (GPG) add in fluffy bunnies that spew strategic missles and costs 1 mass and 1 energy to build, and has double the health of a Universal Colluses...? SURE, we can't say anything about it, afterall its there game, but that doesn't make it right, and they will shape the game so we will enjoy it, and if they don't the sales will suffer horribly for it. So essentially, it looks like we really don't have a choice, but we actually sort of do. Unless you all really don't care if they added bunnies that end the game... WNx Achronos 18:08, March 12, 2010 (UTC)

I don't think Supcom 2 is a "pile of junk," sure it's been dumbed down a lot but overall it plays like an average, yet well-done RTS. There have been many improvements, such as the game running smoother, (my laptop developed lag whenever there was more than three players, now it never lags at all) the more detailed and interesting map design, and the formation cohesion has been greatly improved as well. By itself Supcom 2 is a very fun game, though when compared to the glory of Supcom 1 it is like comparing a galaxy to a moon. Regardless, I'm sure someone will mod it to make it more like Supcom 1 within a year, and then the improvements will really shine. -Baronfuming 18:29, March 12, 2010 (UTC)

You have a very good point WNx, and at a certain point i would voice my upsettedness by not buying the game. It's just that i seem to have a higher ceiling of tolerance than most, and i'm not in the habit of comparing games against their prequels (if i was, i wouldn't be playing Super Paper Mario, or about a dzen other games).

It would be nice to see a flow-based economy and maybe, *just maybe*, multiple tiers of units return to SC2 but i worry about the quality. Some of the modelers got very good in the time FA was out but they never seemed to quite match the style of the game. However, i'm willing to live with it as it is and see where GPG takes it.

As far as the GC's ability goes, that was a very primitive version (i know, i dug
around in the code; if you're a modder, i can explain by recalling that it
used a simple slider to pull that off and in this at actually tries to do a decent
physics-simulation pulling of units for at least the magnetron (not having seen the UC's
code yet)). This method offers waaaaay more than that, and i could probably have a few
field days with it. That's not to mention the graphics engine improvements or the polish.

We could go on for days though, and ultimately what GPG did was this: they streamlined the game a lot and made it more accessible to players that weren't die hard fans, and now they're getting virtually tarred and feathered for it (despite a lot of newcomers actually liking the game now). I am, for one, a die-hard fan of SC1 and FA, but if you'll excuse the "heresy", it simply took too long. My friend barely had the time to play with me because the games were so long, and while it had an epic quality it was just tooo...... sllllooooowwww...... and our machines couldn't run it faster. --RCIX 22:29, March 12, 2010 (UTC)

Oh no doubt there RCIX, a lot of people do indeed like the newer SupCom, but thats a reason why I enjoyed SC1 and FA, was the complexity and managing of resources, units, and managment of proper strategies, if you lessen the complexity of this RTS, its really just another StarCraft. The graphics and AI was an issue, they fixed it, im happy, and so are the people with lower end PC's, but minimizing units, and making a big tech tree to replace the tiers, is something entirely different. I agree with the game time being extremely long in certain games. 81 x 81 in FA took me, and a few buddies in a LAN game 4 and a half hours! Plus, that wasn't even a full 8 player cap, just the 4. Even 1v1's can get to 20 minutes, assuming each player knows how to play. So, yes, I agree that what they did to SupCom2 is for greater good. However, the new steam approach... Bad! Very, very bad! I mean honestly, I have a disc! Why do I need to go online to install from the disc?! WNx Achronos 19:37, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

I think the Steam thing was an attempt to stop piracy. I have no idea why they would think that it would work though, I mean pirates could just download the whole thing- Steam files and all- from TPB or somewhere else. I personally hate that I had to make a Steam account just to play a game that I already bought. -Baronfuming 20:05, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

Exactly, Baron. Chris Taylor lowers the requirements machine wise, and dumbs down the complexity in-game. Then makes it so you need internet access to install the game from disc? I live in the country, I don't have internet, so until I get an air card, a satellite dish, and a bunch of other crap, I can't play my high anticipated game... Its all really just a big piss off. Oh well nothing I can do about it... WNx Achronos 20:11, March 15, 2010 (UTC)

I don't think it was entirely GPGs fault, i do think a majority of it was Valve's and SE's fault for that. But, we're just rehashing here.... :) --RCIX 02:00, March 16, 2010 (UTC)

Haha, yeah. On a brighter less annoyed side, I can play the xbox version tomorrow, whoopy! Unless steam moved onto the xbox and has already begun sucking the life out of that too... My affection for steam is just stunning! :P WNx Achronos 19:53, March 16, 2010 (UTC)

Jeez, the supposed release date here in Canada was Thursday. It got pushed back all the way to this Monday! What a joke! I got to play two games with my mates, and that was it, we had to call it a night because he was going to Egypt at 3 a.m. He'll be back in ten days, but sweet jesus, I could of had a full weekend to play this game. Now I have to work a whole week without a single game! Oh well, its not GPG's fault or THQ's im just crying to the wind... WNx Achronos 19:30, March 23, 2010 (UTC)
