Fortified Artillery, or Light Artillery Station, is a UEF indirect fire structure, that is mainly used to for base defense. Its range is almost three times that of a Point Defense, four after researching the Artillery Weapon Range upgrade. Building a small cluster of these behind your front lines will harass advancing enemy land units long before they can return fire; however, Fortified Artillery needs support from either direct fire land units or Point Defenses. Placing this unit just behind these forces creates a potent defense against large rushes of small land units.

The research Harden Artillery grants the Fortified Artillery the Hardened Mode ability. When activated, for a cost of 500 energy, it sacrifices a small amount of range to turn the Fortified Artillery structure into a high power Point Defense for 30 seconds. Although it deals less direct DPS in this mode than a Point Defense, it greater range and splash damage make up for it.

  • This unit does not count as artillery if artillery is disallowed in exclusions.

TipsEdit

  • The Fortified Artillery Station costs only 6 research points, 1 more than the starting research. Making it very useful for bombarding enemies early in the game to keep them pinned at a defense point close to their base.
  • Although not very accurate in its standard mode, Fortified Artillery is capable of hitting battleships and Fatboys bombarding your base. However due to their inaccuracy and limited damage it takes many Light Artillery Stations to destroy any of these units.
  • The Hardened Mode ability is very useful for punishing land based experimentals and units that get too close.
